Peter Huntington, B.V.Sc., M.A.C.V.Sc., and Kathleen Crandell, Ph.D., recently spoke at the 6th Annual International Conference on Nutrition and Feeding of the Horse – NAEQUINA 2023, held virtually April 27-28. The theme of this year’s conference was “Feeding the Sports Horse, From Myth to Evidence.”

Huntington’s presentation was titled “Nutrition in the Racehorse.” Huntington serves as the director of nutrition at Kentucky Equine Research and works out of the Australian office. His consultation services are held in high regard throughout Asia and the Australian continent, and he is often asked to speak at conferences and other engagements.

Crandell gave two presentations, “Feeding to the NRC Standard,” which references the National Research Council’s publication Nutrient Requirements of Horses, and “Feeding the Endurance Horse.” Crandell, who is fluent in Spanish, has provided presentations at this conference since its inception. Her work at Kentucky Equine Research primarily involves consulting with feed manufacturers and horse owners, and she has been with the company since 1997.

The conference is organized by the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) and its veterinary and animal sciences school. NUTEC, an international feed company based in Mexico, provides sponsorship for the event. Other sponsors include the Asociaciόn Mexicana de Médicos Veterinarios Especialistas en Equinos (AMMVEE) and UVM Laureate International Universities Campus Sur CDMX Sede Coyoacan.
