A relatively new apparatus used for training or injury treatment is the therapeutic vibration floor. Introduced in Europe around the turn of the century, the technique involves having horses stand on a vibrating platform.

Physical effects are said to include improved blood circulation, burning of fat, increased muscular strength and tone, and reduction of muscle stiffness. In veterinary use, the vibrating platform shows evidence of shortening rehabilitation time for soft tissue, tendon, and bone injuries. There are also some claims that vibration improves the status of horses with laminitis and some types of colic.

Some equine clinics and rehabilitation centers have vibration floors that are permanently installed. As an alternative, portable units are available to rent or purchase. Trailer-mounted units that can be moved to a farm, competition site, or training venue are also on the market, making this appliance more easily available for use.
