Research Intern

Olivia Montgomery

Olivia Montgomery is one of our 2023-2024 Research Interns. Olivia joins us from New Zealand, where she gained a degree in animal science with an equine science concentration at Massey University in Palmerston North. Olivia plans on pursuing a master’s degree in equine science upon completion of her internship.

Olivia has been surrounded by horses all her life. From accompanying her dad, an equine veterinarian, to help treat racehorses or foaling mares with her mum, to competing her own horses in dressage, show jumping, show hunter, and eventing, Olivia has a wealth of experience in the horse industry. In addition to her family ties, Olivia has worked in many different areas of the horse industry, such as working with young stock for annual breed sales, grooming and exercising horses in active race training, and working in vet clinics. Everything Olivia has learnt is being utilized and put into producing horses that she has bred; currently, she owns four horses, with two being currently in foal.

Through the Kentucky Equine Research internship program, Olivia is looking forward to seeing more sides of the equine industry, expanding her knowledge in equine nutrition and exercise physiology, and gaining hands-on research experience!
