Kentucky Equine Research recently hosted a webinar titled “Nutritional Management of Horses with Muscle Disorders: Tying-up, Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy, and Myofibrillar Myopathy,” featuring Stephanie Valberg, D.V.M., Ph.D., emeritus professor and former director of the Neuromuscular Diagnostic Laboratory at Michigan State University, and Peter Huntington, B.V.Sc., M.A.C.V.Sc., of Kentucky Equine Research.

The two veterinarians discuss feeding and management strategies for horses with myopathies, including recurrent exertional rhabdomyolysis, both types of polysaccharide storage myopathy, and the more recently defined myofibrillar myopathy.

Despite retirement from a university setting, Valberg continues to work with veterinarians through the Valberg Neuromuscular Diagnostic Laboratory. The laboratory provides accurate diagnosis and outlines optimal treatment plans for horses with muscle disorders.
