Joe Pagan, Ph.D., founder and president of Kentucky Equine Research, recently presented a webinar as part of the Balchem Real Science Lecture Series.

Titled “Recent Developments in Performance Horse Health and Nutrition,” his presentation included an in-depth discussion of various energy sources for horses, including plant fiber, nonstructural carbohydrates, fat, and protein, and how provision of these energy sources has changed over the years and differs based on performance goals.

Pagan also set forth ways to combat problems common among performance horses through targeted supplementation. He mentioned supplements developed by Kentucky Equine Research, such as EquiShure, a hindgut buffer, and Nano-Q10, an antioxidant that features coenzyme Q10. At the end of the presentation, he fielded questions from viewers.
