Innovative research involving the use of coenzyme Q10 in exercising horses has landed a study by Kentucky Equine Research and collaborators on the cover of the most recent issue of Antioxidants, a scientific journal dedicated to the science and technology of antioxidants. The source of coenzyme Q10 used in the study was Nano-Q10, a nutritional supplement formulated by Kentucky Equine Research.

The research paper, titled “Impact of Coenzyme Q10 Supplementation on Skeletal Muscle Respiration, Antioxidants, and the Muscle Proteome in Thoroughbred Horses,” was a collective effort among scientists at three institutions: Kentucky Equine Research, Michigan State University, and Texas A&M University. The study was performed at the Kentucky Equine Research Performance Center in Ocala, Florida. The source of coenzyme Q10 used in the study was Nano-Q10, a nutritional supplement formulated by Kentucky Equine Research.

As part of a collage of artwork, the cover features a photograph of Fair Dinkum, a favorite research horse among scientists and interns at Kentucky Equine Research. After a racing career in which he earned four wins and over $90,000, Fair Dinkum scored a place in the company’s research herd. In addition to his work in Ocala, the 14-year-old gelding has participated in multiple studies at the Kentucky facility.

According to its website, Antioxidants “provides an advanced forum for studies related to the science and technology of antioxidants, focusing on new insights and ideas on active species and processes of biological relevance, natural products, mechanisms of action, applications and uses.” The research papers in the journal are peer-reviewed
