The long awaited announcement detailing the riders selected to represent Team GB in Rio brings a celebration for the team at Saracen Horse Feeds. The dressage team consists of reigning world champion Charlotte Dujuardin and Valegro, and Olympic team gold medallist Carl Hester and Nip Tuck plus Fiona Bigwood with Atterupgaards Orthillia, and Spencer Wilton with Super Nova II, both of whom are making their Olympic debut.

The news of the team is welcomed by Saracen, as each horse is fed on products from the Saracen range. Saracen has been feeding all four horses for many years and through several different stages of their careers. From the exuberant early years, right through to supporting their elite performances as Grand Prix athletes representing Team GB. This is a true testament to the research led range of products specifically formulated to meet the nutritional needs of horses through all stages of life and disciplines.

In addition to congratulating the individual riders, their owners and teams, Saracen is celebrating the success with Lizzie Drury, Saracen Horse Feeds senior nutritionist. Lizzie and her team are ‘tasked’ with overseeing the feeding and nutritional management of all four horses. Regular visits to the yards to track the horse’s weight, condition, stamina and general well being are an important part of this supporting role. Not only does Lizzie take into consideration each horse’s individual nutritional requirements but also the best way to support the horses throughout their competitions and whilst travelling.

“I am enormously proud of the riders, horses and their hard working teams. To have all four riders on the team is like a career dream come true for me. I never take for granted how privileged I am to work alongside the riders and grooms and also have the support of the Saracen team who all help to make this happen. In the final weeks before the horses leave we will be ensuring the horses and their feed are fully prepared for the off, which means business as usual for us,” explained Lizzie Drury.

In addition to the dressage team, eventer Izzy Taylor and Allercombie Ellie will be flying the Team GB flag fueled by Saracen Horse Feeds. Izzy is currently the best placed British rider (eighth) in the FEI World rankings and second in the British rankings.

Every bag of Saracen feed is manufactured under the strict guidelines of the UFAS scheme and BETA NOPS code. Feed supplied for the team horses has been NOPS tested (Naturally occurring prohibited substances) and is in quarantine before leaving on flights in readiness for the horses arrival.
