Question

What is a good feed or supplement for a horse with hindgut acidosis?

Answer

Hindgut acidosis is not an uncommon ailment among horses, and the problem seems to be especially prevalent in those horses fed high-grain diets needed to support athletic performance or lactation, and those horses that are allowed to graze pastures that contain fructan-rich pastures.

Fortunately, there are products in the marketplace designed for hindgut acidosis. One of the leading ones is EquiShure, a buffer that uses time-released technology to target the hindgut. A second product, called RiteTrac, actually contains EquiShure as well as ingredients designed to support the stomach. Therefore, RiteTrac is a total gastrointestinal tract protectant. Both of these products are manufactured by KER.
