Kentucky Equine Research continued a long tradition of success at the annual American Horse Publications Equine Media Awards, held this year in Irving, Texas, September 16-18. The company claimed top honors for its corporate website, ker.com.

The winning website “nails it in the ‘service to industry’ category. The content is spot-on for its audience. Overall, this site is lean, clean, and functional, which means it loads quickly, is easy to find what you’re looking for, and it works well on different devices,” according to the judging panel.

Kentucky Equine Research also earned a second-place award for its Seasonal Spotlight newsletter. The judges praised the quarterly newsletter for its content and design.

“This newsletter displayed a friendly, engaging tone that draws readers in. It struck a nice balance between teaser content that provided context and links to more in-depth articles,” they noted. “The design is clean, and different segments of content are nicely bucketed. The photo selections do not have the feel of stock photography, which imparts a sense that the author institution is truly an expert in this area.”

This year’s competition celebrates material published in 2020 and drew nearly 650 entries submitted by freelance writers, publishers, and businesses. While the Equine Media Awards were first awarded 45 years ago, Kentucky Equine Research won its first prizes in 2002, including a writing award for longtime employee Mark Llewellyn.

According to its website,American Horse Publications strives to be the primary source of education, resources, and networking for the equine media community, believing a proactive approach in an ever-evolving communications-driven world allows the flexibility and opportunity to promote, support and reward excellence in equine media.”
