Thoroughbreds will often have nutritional changes as they transition from life at the track to second careers. Pinning down the best way to implement these changes can lead to more questions than answers as owners work diligently to meet shifting nutritional needs.

Recently, the Retired Racehorse Project hosted a live question and answer session with Kathleen Crandell, Ph.D., a nutritionist at Kentucky Equine Research. The questions she fielded were submitted by the Thoroughbred Makeover Class of 2020.

In the webinar, Crandell covers a range of topics, including:

  • Where do you start when building a feeding program from your horse?
  • How to build a diet for ulcer-prone horses?
  • What are grain-free diets? How do you know if you should consider a grain-free diet for your horse?
  • How do ration balancers fit into a feeding program?
