Mark focuses on technical writing and editing for Kentucky Equine Research. He counts his time with the company in decades, not years, arriving at the company in the late 1990s.

Not long before he had graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications. While there, he was a member of the horse judging team, where he placed individually at the country’s largest contests, including a third-place finish at the AQHA World Championship Horse Show intercollegiate horse judging contest. He worked year-round as an intern for the horse extension specialist at the University of Kentucky for three years. He continued his involvement as a member of the Eastern National 4-H Horse Roundup planning committee, helping conduct the hippology contest for several years. He currently serves on the Woodford County 4-H Council, which helps oversee programming for local 4-H clubs and activities.

While he loves all horses, he is especially fond of show hunters and has a special appreciation for the history of show hunters and hunter seat equitation. He has had a lifetime interest in conformation analysis of horses. He also manages a full schedule of judging local and regional horse shows, and helping the Kentucky Hunter Jumper Association. What does he do outside of horses? He enjoys flower gardening, food preservation, and needlework, occasionally exhibiting his work at county and state fairs.
