Raising a sales-topping yearling is no easy task, from selecting the right stallion and mare pairing to preparing for the sales ring, careful consideration is given to every stage of life for a future racehorse. Because of the importance of providing youngsters with proper nutrition, many studs turn to Saracen Horse Feeds for the finest nutritional solutions. The results speak for themselves.

On the first day of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale three of the four top lots were fed Saracen. Houghton Bloodstock, a Saracen client had the day’s top yearling, selling a Kingman(GB) – Galicuix (GB) colt for 2,700,000 gns, making him the most expensive yearling to sell in North America or Europe this year. “People from Juddmonte, where Kingman stands at stud, said he was the most like Kingman they had seen, which gave us a lot of confidence,” said Robin Shar from Houghton Stud in an interview with Tattersalls. “He stood out in the ring. He gave a great show, took it all in stride, and we’re very proud of him.”

Another Saracen client, Floors Stud was the first of the day to break into seven figures with a Frankel (GB) – Attraction (GB) colt selling for 1,100,000 gns. “When I last looked at the foals, just before the Duke of Roxburghe died, I remember videoing everything for him and sending a video of this one and telling him that this is probably the best horse you’ve ever bred,” said Floors Stud Bloodstock Advisor Ed Sackville in a Tattersalls interview. Floors Stud broke the 2,000,000 gns mark as well with a Dubawi (IRE) – Cushion (GB) colt.

The horses were fed a combination of Stud Prep 14 and Equi-Jewel® with supplements from KER Targeted Nutrition, including EquiShure®, BioBloom™ PS, and Synovate HA®. To discuss your stud’s requirements with a Saracen expert, call +44 (0) 1488 734 56.
