Official duties kicked off in earnest this weekend, as Dr. Joe Pagan attended the WEG Eventing test event to discuss feed and bedding logistics with the team managers and event organizers.

He went over our experience facilitating events like these and the likely process for ordering, shipping, and handling feed for the event.

European competitors will have several options. They can choose a feed from the list of approved feeds several months before the event. These feeds will be tested by our team in advance and will be handled and transported to the venue. These can be available on an a-la-carte basis by horse, or a day rate including all feed, hay, and bedding. They can attempt to bring and manage their own feed (which is a major pain). Or they can select US-sourced feed on the venue. All ordering is done on the team and discipline level, so whichever route they choose needs to be consistent by team and discipline. (For example, all Swiss vaulting horses will be on a daily rate.)

Pro tip: Make it easy on yourself and go for the day rate.

Dr. Pagan and staff also checked out the venue, stabling, feed office, and crew accommodation options. We’ll need a team of around 10 people to staff the warehouse, handle orders, and make deliveries onsite. This is a hot ticket among KER staff and friends!
