“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” The post office motto can also be applied to the feed and forage crew working at WEG 2018. We’ve been hitting refresh on Hurricane Florence’s track forecast for days. Currently it looks like the storm will hook north, bringing it over the venue. It will have weakened significantly by the time it reaches Tryon, but there’s still the potential for significant rain and wind to complicate feed and hay deliveries.

The organizers have made quite a few adjustments to stabling in advance of the storm to move horses into the driest and most secure barns. This shell game brings an added layer of guesswork as we’re chasing horses around the venue to try to deliver feed to their actual locations.

WEG hurricane Florence pathStaff members driving to the venue tomorrow are bringing along a generator and gas, as well as emergency supply kits. Hopefully none of these things will be called into service. In the meantime, we’re running deliveries while we wait to see what Florence brings.
